You Are Not Broken: Why I Created These Workbooks for Self Discovery

Gentle Tools for Understanding Yourself

I am a therapist because I had a fantastic experience with therapy myself.

Being honest, I did not.

I became a therapist because I know what it feels like to search for anything and everything that might finally “fix” me.

I believed that if I found the right answer, worked harder, or became a different version of myself, life might feel easier.

My journey wasn’t neat or straightforward. It was a gradual journey from surviving to living, with plenty of messy middle moments along the way.

That journey taught me something important.

We are not problems waiting to be fixed.

Sometimes we need a safe place to slow down, understand what has shaped us and begin responding to ourselves with curiosity rather than criticism.

This belief sits behind my work as an integrative therapist, ADHD coach and addiction counsellor. My approach is also advocacy-informed, recognising that people do not struggle in isolation and that their experiences, circumstances, needs and access to support all matter.

That is also why I created these workbooks.

Why did I create these workbooks?

I created these workbooks to give people a gentle and practical place to explore what they are experiencing at their own pace. They bring together clear information, reflective questions and supportive tools without asking anyone to rush, perform or find the “right” answer.

Over more than 25 years of working around mental health and wellbeing, I have seen how powerful it can be when someone begins to understand themselves differently.

Knowledge can offer relief, but we may still need time, repetition and support to connect that understanding to our own life.

That is where pausing becomes important.

Of all the wonders in the world, I'm still amazed by what can happen when we pause and look at ourselves through a lens of curiosity, compassion, and self-acceptance.

That pause can create enough space to notice a pattern, recognise a need or consider a different choice.

Beautiful changes can grow from those moments.

Meaningful change is rarely instant. It asks for consistency, patience and a willingness to meet ourselves where we are.

My workbooks were designed to support that process:

Pause. Notice. Understand. Choose.

They invite you to discover what feels helpful, realistic, and right for you.

Who are these workbooks for?

These workbooks are for adults who want to understand themselves more deeply and explore supportive tools without judgement or pressure. They may be particularly helpful if lengthy, clinical or overly complicated resources leave you feeling more overwhelmed than supported.

You may recognise yourself here if you are:

  • Exploring ADHD: Perhaps you were diagnosed later in life, are waiting for an assessment or are beginning to recognise how executive functioning, emotional overwhelm, and years of adapting have affected you.

  • Living with anxiety: You may want to understand anxious thoughts, emotional responses and what helps you feel steadier when anxiety appears.

  • Questioning alcohol: You may be reflecting on your relationship with alcohol or considering an alcohol free life without wanting to be judged, labelled or told that you must reach rock bottom first.

  • Beginning a self-discovery journey: You may want to explore your values, emotional needs, patterns, identity and what matters to you now.

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself: Perhaps you have spent years caring for others, meeting expectations or adapting yourself to fit, and you are no longer sure who you are beneath it all.

You do not need to be in crisis to begin understanding yourself.

You also don't need to complete an entire workbook before something in it can feel useful.

Which workbook might be right for you?

The most helpful workbook is the one that speaks to what you need now, not the one you think you should complete. Start with the subject that feels most relevant, and work through it in your own way.

How should you use a digital workbook?

There is no perfect way to use a workbook. You can print it, write your responses in a separate journal or simply read a few pages and sit with the questions that feel meaningful.

You do not need to start at the beginning or complete every exercise.

One question that helps you see yourself differently can be more valuable than rushing through twenty pages because you feel you should.

Choose one small section and give yourself time to reflect. Return when you are ready.

Let the workbook support your life, not become another unfinished task that makes you feel guilty.

There is another way

I cannot promise a quick fix because meaningful support does not work like that.

What I can offer is a compassionate place to start, with information and tools that encourage greater understanding rather than more self-blame.

If you would like support, I am here to help guide you.

That might be through working with me personally, reading one of my blogs or choosing a workbook that meets you where you are just now.

Please keep believing that there can be another way.

You deserve the opportunity to understand yourself, care for yourself and discover what living more fully might mean for you.

You matter.
